Abstract :
Summary form only given. Technology management is a key element in an organization´s strategic planning. In the new e-world, Internet technology has become even more central to the question of sustainable competitive advantage. The advent of the Internet as a mainstream business medium has made technology management a key concern for even low-technology companies, for whom a Web presence simply provides comparative parity for existing products. Increasingly, however, corporations are being held accountable for another bottom line, one that measures corporate social performance in terms of corporate citizenship, community development, employment and purchasing practices, and environmental impact. The question under study is how can technology management enable the achievement of both competitive performance and social responsibility goals? Can social responsibility be successfully and systemically integrated with strategic action? By focusing on the initiatives of eight Internet-oriented companies, positive models for strategic responsibility emerge
