Abstract
Using low precision quantizers for analog to digital conversion in millimeter wave (mmWave) wireless receivers is a method proposed to reduce power consumption and economic cost. We propose a novel receiver architecture using ideas from the advanced parallel ADC design literature. In this receiver architecture, we design the mmWave receiver by exploiting similarities between parallel ADCs and multiple antenna receivers employing a symbol rate ADC at each element. We theoretically show that the effective signal to noise ratio of our parallel ADC combiner scales linearly with the number of antennas. Simulations are used to demonstrate how coding can be incorporated into this architecture to improve receiver performance measured in terms of bit error rate.
