Abstract
Summary form only given. With the development of resource based view of a firm, competence, capability and skill are more and more discussed by practitioners and theorists. Knowledge is the basic unit of competence, capability or skill. So the most important thing in a resource based view of a firm is knowledge. This paper pays attention on the knowledge-creation mechanism in Chinese firms. The architecture knowledge and component knowledge are defined. A knowledge system consists of component knowledge and architecture knowledge. Component knowledge recognizes the objective as a whole or its components. Component knowledge deals with discrete knowledge and embodies in units. Architecture knowledge is the knowledge about the relationships among systems or system components. Architecture knowledge embodies in connections of units. A framework of the architecture-component knowledge-creating circle is advanced. Case studies on Hangzhou Boiler Manufacturer and Handan Steel are discussed
