Abstract :
In general, losses associated with the particular photo-physics of organic gain medium (e.g. losses/absorption due to triplet excitons or polarons) are serious and fundamental road blockers for organic solid state lasers. Pile-up of triplet excitons will impede continuous wave operation, while towards electrical operation the detrimental influence of charged species (polarons) has to be considered. We will discuss prospects and strategies to overcome these losses. Some of the loss mechanisms, present in organic media may be absent in the recently considered class of organo-metal halide perovskites.
