  • Abstract
This article reports on Erbium Optical Amplifiers (EDFAs) and their use in different positions (booster, in-line and preamplifier) for optical communication systems; in particular improving the reach up 40 km of hybrid Passive Optical Networks (WDM/TDM-PON) with 512 users. Moreover in this paper, was study different characterizations of EDFA amplifier, which depend essentially on erbium ion (Er3+) concentration, however the performance of hybrid system are modeled and compared for different concentration quenching effect Homogeneous Up-Conversion (HUC) and the Pair-Induced Quenching (PIQ)). It is found, that a high concentrations of erbium ions deleterious and reduce the luminescence efficiency of the system.
