Abstract
This paper presents a simple and effective approach for adjusting the parameters of fractional-order PI (FOPI) controllers using particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) under constraints. The proposed FOPI is used to control thermal devices which are usually used for thermal rendering in telepresence and virtual reality applications. The general fractional-order PID (FOPID) controllers will be presented. The proposed tuning approach based on the PSO algorithm is presented. The thermal device input/output model is also proposed and its parameters are identified. Finally, we present some results of optimal setting by PSO of the of fractional PI controller parameters for thermal device temperature control. An experimentation is carried out on the same thermal device identify.
