Corporate culture and innovative performance of the firm

The relationship between cultural characteristics of organizations and their performance has gained increasing attention in the scientific as well as in the management literature since the 1980s. This development was mainly caused by the initial observation that performance gaps existed between organizations with almost identical formal organizational structures. Various meta-analyses on the results from empirical research on success factors of innovations show that the influence of cultural aspects on the innovative performance of firms has been neglected in the past. It can be summarized that innovation research lacks a profound empirical study to date which analyzes the relationship between organizational culture and innovative performance on the firm level based on a theoretically derived and valid measurement scale for organizational culture. The present study aims to close this gap. Establishing valid measurement scales requires the application of rigorous testing methods based on a sample of multiple respondents per organizational entity to be studied.
