Abstract :
In the literature, there are two ways to connect the clamp capacitor in the Active-Clamped Current-Fed Half-Bridge (ACCFHB) converter: negative node connection and positive node connection. This paper analyses the effects on the input current concerning those connection possibilities and proposes that the capacitor must be connected to the negative node to achieve lower input current ripple or to reduce the filter current stress and the volume. The input filter is also analyzed and an example design is presented. The converter was simulated and experimented in the laboratory using both connections possibilities, with and without the input filter, to confirm the theoretical proposition.
