The development of Smart Grid in Brazil and the role of universities

This article presents the analysis of some data from the Brazilian Electrical System with the objective to identify the possible reasons for implementing Smart Grids in Brazil. Based on that, it is presented a parallel between Brazilian, European and American realities. Furthermore, information about Research & Development from electricity utilities are exposed. The authors comment about the role of universities in this context. The work intends to motivate some reflexions about the actions to be prioritized for the production of solutions associated to the Brazilian reality.
