Abstract
In this project, following a brief historical view on the control methods of DC motors and the first high power semiconductor devices, the mathematical models of different DC motors and buck converter are derived first. Using these equations, a high frequency buck converter is designed according to the model of the DC motor used in the experimental section. After that, using the designed converter, characteristics of shunt and series DC motors are derived for several operating conditions. The characteristics of the DC motors are followed by the influence of the load change to the output voltage of the converter and its efficiency change as the load is increased.
