Abstract
Mitigation of wind turbine (WT) forward scattering for radar and communication systems requires a comprehensive understanding of the impact of diffraction of radio and radar signals at a WT. Investigation of a large variety of diffraction scenarios demands a fast and profound calculation method. Time-variant diffraction loss of the forward scattered signal is calculated using 2D Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction approach and verified by 3D numerical field simulation using Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD). For the first time a general understanding of the interaction of the diffraction by rotor and tower is presented which is beyond the investigation of a particular scenario.
