Abstract :
In this paper, researches on coastal radar antennas at the Research Center for Electronics and Telecommunications of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PPET-LIPI) are presented. The radar frequencies are of 9.4 GHz (X-Band), and 3 GHz (S-band). There are several types of antenna used in this radar researches including antenna modules with reflector and planar antenna array. From several experiments, planar array antenna has a superior performance in comparison to the antenna with reflector, where the gain for the planar antenna is higher. Based on the simulation, the gain of reflector antenna is of 22.6 dBi, for the planar antennas are of 31.1 dBi (LPI radar) and of 27.5 dBi (coastal radar). While in the measurement test, the gain of reflector antenna is of 18 dBi, for the planar antennas are of 29 dBi (LPI radar) and of 25 dBi (coastal radar). This research shows that planar antenna is more suitable for the coastal radar.
