Abstract
Femtosecond (fs) lasers provide unique features for smart material processing. According to these properties, new applications can be accessed by adapting specific optics and tailored processing strategies. Interaction phenomena and beam forming optics are discussed. Recent results demonstrate the huge potential for micro-structuring using fs-laser pulses. Applications to stainless steel, silicon and bioresorbable polymers are described.
