Abstract :
This paper inspects a signal processing approach to determine number and distance of objects in the sea. Determining number and distance of objects in the sea are two key factors for underwater communication. Now-a-days navigation, marine experiment, fisheries, detective purposes and many other works in under water are highly dependent on this determination. However, including SONAR some conventional techniques are used in these purposes, sometimes, these techniques are complex as well as costly. Here, we try to show a statistical tool called cross-correlation technique, which is, on the other hand, a significant aspect in signal processing approach. The cross-correlation technique is used in this determination process. We transmitted CHIRP signal and used its echo effect in order to determine the number and distance of the objects in the sea. We have verified this proposed theory by a simulation from the MATLAB programming environment.
