Abstract
To make better use of the bandwidth that has the optical fiber, optical communications systems have had to increase the transmission power of signals to transport information over long distances. Because of this, certain nonlinear optical phenomena such as four wave mixing (Four Wave Mixing, FWM), which degrade the information signal begin to occur. In this document a study and simulation of the nonlinear phenomenon is performed using Matlab software tool to determine the impairments caused in the transmission of information when using WDM multiplexing techniques.
