Abstract :
The French Institute of Research for the Sea Exploitation (IFREMER) uses the multibeam sounder SIMRAD EM12 to build a morphological and sedimentary cartography of seafloors. Produced maps help geologists to understand the various processes that formed the lithosphere. A method to filter bathymetric data is given to improve the legibility of morphological maps of the seabed made from information collected by the sounder. After a pre-processing that eliminates unknown or unrealistic soundings, data are filtered to remove the artefacts brought about by incorrectly appreciated ship motion and also to minimize the noise effects, with a monodimensional wavelet packet filter
