  • Abstract
This paper designed an insulation faults detection and location system with traveling wave for transmission lines, to solve the problem of precise detection. A special traveling wave sensor was developed based on the two order differential principle, which enhanced the wave head steepness, then to improve the detection accuracy. On this basis, combined with GPS satellite synchronous precision timing and GPRS wireless communication technology, the insulation faults detection and location system with traveling wave was proposed. And the initial fault point is located by a double-terminal fault location algorithm. The testing results showed that the detection sensitivity of partial discharge flashover current is 2.134A, which verified the performance of the proposed system for the insulation faults.
