Abstract :
Because of the intermittency of output PV power, the authors have developed and implemented the Perturb and Observe (P&O) MPPT technique using genetic algorithm (GA) to tune and obtain the optimum parameters of the PI controller for the standalone PV-diesel hybrid power system. This PI controller regulates the output of boost converter for PV system. The results of this control technique are compared with the convention al P&O MPPT technique that is based on PI trial and error method for the same system. The proposed novel controller has improved the dynamic response of PV system output power and the voltage oscillation damping. Another reason to design this pro posed controller is because the fluctuating power causes frequency deviation in the power system, so the controller also reduces the frequency deviation of the standalone PV-Diesel hybrid power system in term of rise time and maximum overshooting during any fluctuation of PV insolation. The whole system is implemented by using MATLAB/Simulink Environment using actual solar radiation data. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
