  • Abstract
Electric vehicles have indeed contributed a lot to the energy savings and environment protections, while it leaves a worldwide problem that is how to recycle its core component-the battery. A specific economic analysis of applying the used EV battery to the commercial electricity customers is carried out based on actual data of the real-time load curves and the electricity prices collected from the State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company. Obtained results show that the secondary utilization of the EV battery as a storage technology is justified in load shifting application and its cost effectiveness is decided mainly by the volatility of electricity prices. Furthermore is reasonable for commercial application and the benefits can be improved with capital cost being lower and lifetime being longer. In addition, its benefits include not only the monetary savings from the load shifting, but also the improvement of network congestion by reducing the peak demand. Subsidy to storage technology market is also reasonable if savings from network congestion improvement is significant.
