Abstract :
This issue features three interesting yet diverse papers related to electromagnetic effects and electromagnetic compatibility. The first paper, ???Distribution of Energy Absorption in an Inhomogeneous Head Model at 900 MHz???, is contributed by M. Haridim, B. Levin, S. Revich, S. Chulski and R. Zemach from the Holon Institute of Technology in Holon, Israel; and R. Sauleau from the University of Rennes, Rennes, France. They developed an inhomogeneous model of a human head, which consists of a number of tissues, for the evaluation of electromagnetic (EM) fields inside the head at 900 MHz. The level of exposure in the head is computed through numerical simulation of the specific absorption rate (SAR) in the whole head and in separated areas. Comparing with the homogeneous model, it is found that the total SAR of both models is approximately the same but SAR in certain areas of the inhomogeneous model is up to ten times higher than that of the homogeneous model. These findings show that evaluating SAR on the basis of a homogeneous model may lead to misleading conclusions.
