Abstract :
In this paper, the design and simulation of a Microstrip Fractal patch antenna with dual polarization which operates in a frequency band of 2-4 GHz (S-band) is proposed. Obtaining high isolations and low cross polarized levels are important and challenging issues in the design of dual polarized antennas. Here we propose a technique to overcome these drawbacks, mainly to improve bandwidth and to reduce isolation loss by making use of the fractal geometry. The fractal geometries can improve impedance matching. The proposed fractal antenna shows multiband characteristics with improved bandwidth. Also the fractal patch antenna shows high isolation compared to conventional dual patch antenna with isolation loss is reduced by a factor of 15 dB. The simulations are performed by using Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The proposed antenna finds its application in weather radars, communication satellites and wireless communications.
