Abstract :
This paper epitomizes the comparative study of wireless communication generations, requirements for 5G networks and some key technologies to fulfill the needs such as employing millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies, cell shrinking and advanced MIMO with grid array antenna. Brief showcase of hardware development activities for mmWave based 5G and effects of higher frequencies i.e. mmWave frequencies on biological tissues are also included. There is significantly rapid development in cellular communication system in last few decades from GSM based 2G networks to LTE-A system (4G). Increasing demands for better throughput, faster and reliable networks supporting higher data rates and increased traffic capacity in cellular systems are showing need for introducing 5th generation (5G) wireless communication system.
