Abstract :
Landslide is a common geological disaster, which seriously threatens people´s safety and property. The landslide monitoring has great significance in reducing loss due to landslide. This paper introduces a real time landslide monitoring method using computer vision technologies. Our method uses a fixed video camera and a processor which is inexpensive yet efficient and is semi automatic. The method is based on background subtraction based moving object detection technique and entropy thresholding. Entropy is calculated for automatic landslide detection. We have also introduced the measurement of landslide movement´s velocity. Velocity of landslide movement is an important factor in risk assessment. An alarm message is generated when a landslide event is detected which can transmitted as a real time SMS text massage.
