Abstract :
Palm vein characteristic has been adopted as the new trend in biometrics systems. This is advancement over the existing traits such as finger, face, iris and all other traits. The blood vessel structure of every individual is found to be unique and distinct. The paper discuss about the methodologies adopted for the extraction of the features in the form of edges of the blood vein structure. The Gabor filter is used to visualize a feature from an image and to be followed by canny edge detector to trace the boundaries of the blood vessel. The paper also states a design of recognition system using efficient use of distance metric and local binary pattern.
