Abstract
Smart grid is an improvement of the existing traditional power grid that replaces simplex communications with bi-directional communication throughout the infrastructure. Home Area Network (HAN) is an important unit of the smart grid communication system. In a HAN, there is typically a smart meter and a number of electric home appliances. Here we are using ZigBee for communications between smart meter and home appliances. The data transmitted between Smart Meter and Utility reveals all the details pertaining to households. So security for this communication has got greater significance in smart grid networks. This paper discusses Pallier Crypto Systems for encryption of this data. Damgard Jurik encryption algorithm is applied for secure data transmission between Home Area Network and the utility centre at the distribution side. This paper aims to establish secure communication architecture between the client side and the Utility. The strength of the algorithm is tested considering various attacks including Denial of Service Attack.
