Abstract :
Five star hotels have become one of the most energy intensive building types in China. For this research, a detailed survey of 21 live star hotels in China was conducted from July 2013 to May 2014. An overview of the energy data and equipment information of the surveyed hotels is presented, followed by a systematic analysis on the electricity, gas and water usage in five main functional areas of the hotels. These areas are Heating, Air Conditioning, Food and Beverage Services, Laundry, and Guestrooms. The systematic analysis introduces different indexes including an energy consumption index per gross floor area and an index per guest night, which enables hotel managers to effectively determine areas with energy saving potential.
