Abstract :
Multipath routing protocols are more popular in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), as they overcomes certain limitations of single-path routing. Compared to single-path routing approaches they have many advantages in term of higher throughput, lower end-to-end delay, higher energy efficiency and network lifetime. Energy efficiency is crucial requirements in many applications as nodes in MANETs are battery operated. In this paper, Energy Aware On-demand Multipath Distance Vector Routing (EAOMDV) is introduced. EAOMDV is a multipath routing protocol which selects paths between source-destination pair based on a route cost function. The cost function is computed by considering residual battery power of a node and its present traffic. We evaluate the performance of EAOMDV by comparing it with an existing protocol AOMDV [1]. Simulation results suggest that the proposed protocol has lower energy consumption and higher packet delivery ratio.
