  • Abstract
Voltage, frequency and power (real and reactive) plays an important role in power system. It should be in a predefined limit and if any one of them violates its limits then the system becomes unstable. Our generation capacity is not increasing as compare to loads increasing due to environmental and economical reason. Power system is operating at critical value. To enhance the maximum power transfer capability and improve dynamic stability of the system we use Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices. FACTS devices have very fast response. It can be operate either in normal or abnormal conditions. In this paper, mainly two types of FACTS controllers we have analyzed i.e. Thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and Static VAR Compensator (SVC). TCSC mainly vary the reactance of the transmission line and improves stability limit. TCSC is also known as series compensator. However SVC improves the voltage regulation where it has been connected. SVC is also known as shunt compensator. These controllers have very fast response. This paper shows how we can improve the dynamic stability by using TCSC and SVC which are connected to single machine infinite bus (SMIB) power system.
