Abstract
We proposed a novel technique to reduce a viscous friction of liquid crystal (LC) confined and sheared in two sliding surfaces by using photoalignment of LC molecules near the surface. For the photoalignment, the alignment film was coated on one side of the sliding surface. The validity of the proposed technique was verified by the nanometric method that can measure shear viscosity and molecular alignment simultaneously.
