Abstract :
The behavior of lipid vesicles in the presence of a photosensitive surfactant was studied. We found that UV irradiation induces the change in membrane tension and causes the fusion of vesicles. We discuss the physical mechanism of this fusion event in terms of the elastic free energy of the membrane.
