  • Abstract
This paper presents the heuristic optimization technique Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) for the optimal location and setting of static VAR compensator (SVC) to achieve minimum real power transfer loss, installation cost and enhance the voltage profile. The economic perspective of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) installation and their performance is a crucial issue in terms of size and location to ease congestion, desirable voltage profile and minimization of line losses under the network constraints. The optimization of these issues plays a vital role in the availability of quality power. The proposed algorithm is validated in the IEEE-14 bus system with load flow equation using a Newton Raphson algorithm. The performance of IEEE-14 bus system is calculated on different loading condition. The simulation results of SVC with TLBO are compared with and without FACTS, to show the effectiveness of TLBO.
