Abstract
This paper aims at the comparative study of the performance of the converters - Matrix converter, AC-AC converter and AC-DC-AC converter. Each of the converter is fed by variable supply voltage which is obtained as the result of varying wind speed in the wind farm and is operated to get output of constant frequency of 50 Hz. LC filter is used to obtain perfect sine wave of 50 Hz frequency at the output. Simulation results are shown for all the three converters using the software SIMULINK. The performance of each of the converter is then compared on the basis of various parameters such as output voltage THD before and after filtering, input current THD and the number of switches used. The results shows that the matrix converter is better than the AC-AC converter and AC-DC-AC converter for wind energy conversion system.
