Abstract :
One of the major challenges of the AFRS (Automatic Fingerprint Recognition System) is the quality of the fingerprint images. During the acquisition phase, the quality of the image can be often distorted due to blurring, introduction of noise in latent images, poor quality image capturing techniques. The performance of such fingerprints can be enhanced by applying various enhancement techniques. This pre processing activity helps to clear the image and make it easier to extract features for identification for an AFRS. This paper has listed various filtering techniques to remove Gaussian noise and salt and pepper noise. In this paper comparative analysis has been performed based on the computation of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Mean Square Error (MSE).
