Abstract :
Component based software engineering is changing the way large software systems are built. It lays stress on the construction and design of software systems with the help of reusable software components. However, the search and selection of these reusable components is a tedious task. A novel methodology has been introduced in this paper, which can be used to select the best component out of a pool of candidate alternatives. The software component being selected here is a program code available as an open source. The selection process will depend on certain code metrics to help the user select the best quality code out of the various alternatives. Since this is an automated technique, the user has an unlimited number of options to choose from without having to worry about the time and effort involved in the selection process.
