Abstract
The power system is a dynamic system with always changing states. To maintain power flow in the transmission lines, state information is necessary for the operator to decide the course of action. Two-dimensional (2D) circle diagrams are a conventional tool for transmission lines state representation in a single diagram. However, these 2D circle diagrams translate with (i) change in transmission line parameters and (ii) terminal voltages. It makes the representation difficult, limiting their use considerably. This paper presents a novel approach to visualize the power flow in the transmission line using three-dimensional (3D) circle diagrams. This presentation inherits the advantages of circle diagram, along with eliminating the problem of translation. This visualization of states helps in decision-making process of the operator. The proposed approach is tested and validated on MATLAB® platform, which is found capable to represent all state information on single diagram, without translation.
