Abstract
Error detection and correction techniques are used to accomplish reliable data transmission through a communication channel. Redundant Residue Number System (RRNS) is a type of number system in which the arithmetic operations are carry free, so errors do not propagate from one residue to other. This paper analyses the performance of burst error correction algorithm using RRNS code and is compared with a conventional burst error correction technique, Reed-Solomon (RS) code in terms of Symbol Error Rate (SER) in an AWGN channel as well as Rayleigh fading channel. The simulation results show that RRNS codes have around 3dB better error rate performance than RS codes at a SER of 10-3. Simulations and performance comparisons are done using MATLAB®.
