Abstract :
This paper examines the impact of a Capacitive Energy Storage (CES) unit to enhance the dynamic performance of isolated wind diesel hybrid power system under different operating conditions. Wind Diesel Hybrid System (WDHS) obtains maximum contribution from wind and rest from diesel generator. This system is useful in rural or island areas. The irregular power generation as well as intermittent load variation sometimes cause massive fluctuations in frequency of the power system. To reduce these types of system oscillations, CES can provide and absorb active, reactive powers quickly has been applied. The performance and the analysis have been done in a user friendly MATLAB/Simulink environment by applying a step load and a constant load disturbance of 1% in the system. The dynamic responses with and without having CES units have been compared. Simulation studies reveal that inclusion of CES unit in the hybrid wind diesel power system improve transient performance of both wind and diesel sides.
