Abstract
Coronary artery disease is the world´s leading killer and hypertensive emergencies are common in patients with coronary artery disease. The blood pressure can be lowered by injecting vasodilators like Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) intravenously. SNP is a fast acting drug and it lowers the blood pressure very fast. Excess SNP is toxic and may even lead to death. Thus automatic drug delivery is mostly preferred for SNP drug infusion, in order to ensure proper control of blood pressure. A complex non-linear pulsatile flow model representing the human reaction to SNP drug is used in this work. A cardiovascular model along with the pharmacokinetic model and pharmacodynamic model of SNP constitutes the nonlinear pulsatile flow model. A fuzzy logic controller is designed and implemented to control drug delivery to regulate the blood pressure.
