  • Abstract
In a wavelength division multiplexing system erbium doped fiber amplifiers are used for optical amplification purposes. But the transients occur in the gain of erbium doped optical amplifier because of system reconfiguration that is because of addition or deletion of channels. Due to this there is adverse affect on the performance of wavelength division multiplexing system. Thus in this paper we analysed the various techniques of suppressing transients in the gain of erbium doped optical amplifier. In this paper the three different techniques ring laser, fabry perot and hybrid (combination of ring laser and fabry perot) configuration, are used for limiting the power excursions and to improve the quality factor of surviving channels. The above stated techniques are used for both the cases: added channel case and dropped channel case. Further these different configurations are compared on the basis of quality factor of the channels for the above two cases.
