Abstract :
Power quality is one of the key factors in electrical systems and is taken into consideration to meet the demands of the customer. High voltage distribution system (HVDS) is one of the methods to improve quality and reliability of the distribution system. In HVDS, power is transmitted from the distribution station to consumer premises through the booster transformers and voltage regulators. Inrush currents or magnetizing currents and heating of insulation have been observed in transformers due to non-linear loads. As a result, the current drawn by the system is high. To overcome the effects of transformer, a step-up power converter with fuzzy control has been designed. In this paper, high voltage alternating current (HVAC) boost converter with fuzzy controller has been proposed for cost effective solution to reduce the distribution losses. Simulation studies have been carried out for verifying the utilities of the proposed design and found that the distribution system efficiency is improved by 4%.
