Abstract :
This paper presents a comparative analysis of maximum torque per ampere control (MTPA) and zero d-axis current control (ZDAC) in Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. Interior PMSM is preferred due its extra reluctance torque production. Zero d axis current control is used in most of the industrial application due its control simplicity. Due to thermal or reliability constraints the maximum allowable current of the inverter or motor is limited. This also limits the torque capability. But maximum torque per ampere control gives high efficiency as the stator current is lesser compare to ZDAC. So below base speed operating region MTPA control is applied to optimize the efficiency. The MTPA control strategy mostly used in the efficient drive applications. This also attracts the researchers and technologist to work with MTPA in PMSM drive. Simulation has been done in terms of Zero d axis current control and MTPA control with load changing. The comparative study has been done with both the control.
