Abstract :
As electricity is the driving force of modern civilization, affordable electricity is must for the enrichment of economy for any developing countries. But it is very unfortunate that power sector of Bangladesh is beset with two crucial problems-inadequate supply of electricity and irregular price hike of electricity. This paper tries to investigate the major obstacles in achieving the access to affordable electricity, suggests coal as primary fuel for affordable electricity generation and also directs the way to solve the problems associated with coal fired power generation in Bangladesh context. It contains a comparative analysis for the selection of appropriate technology among the available modern approaches such as Super & Ultra Super Critical technology, Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC).
