Abstract :
The purpose of this pilot study was to realize whether there was a difference of the reading process between a high-grade group and a low-grade group when they took an automobile maintenance test. There were six university students (N=6) as the participants in the experiment. The average age was 21. They were divided into a high-grade group and a low-grade group according to the score of the experimental test. The participants´ pupil trajectories were recorded by an eye tracker during the experiment. The independent eye-movement variables were the total contact time, the number of fixation, and the duration of the first fixation of each region of interest. The experimental results show that high-grade group read the tests more detailed and carefully than that of the low-grade group. The findings suggest that improving the carefulness of low-grade group might improve not only the scores of examinations but also the learning performance.
