Abstract :
Compared with traditional DC transmission systems, the VSC-based HVDC power transmission system, as a new type of transmission system performs better in terms of improving power system stability due to its inherent structural characteristics and it has promising application prospect. In order to guarantee the safety and stability of a power grid, this paper summarizes the control strategies of both two ends VSC-HVDC system and multi terminal HVDC system (MTDC). Considering large scale wind farms with strong volatility will be integrated and located widely into the system in the near future, control strategies and the stability of the MTDC system will be of great concern. In this paper, the development and currently status of control strategies and stability of MTDC system are reviewed, which will lay a foundation for the further research and application of VSC-HVDC.
