  • Abstract
Combining publicly available weather data with conductor information and load data from clients, we are able to calculate conductor temperatures with enough accuracy, in the majority of cases, without the need for de-energising power lines to install expensive equipment. Thus, we have the ability to greatly improve utilisation of existing power line assets at minimal cost and inconvenience. Additionally, where weather data is available sub-hourly we can further improve upon the accuracy of conductor calculation temperatures by using transient calculations. Use of the NM Group Transmission Constraint Mitigation System can be shown to mitigate (effectively eliminate) 90+ % of transmission congestion on the power network.
