Abstract :
One way to reduce bandwidth requirement in video-on-demand (VoD) system is to use periodic broadcasting scheme for popular videos. Video segments will be periodically broadcasted on several channels and client needs to wait some time to watch the video without jitter. Many periodic broadcasting schemes have been proposed, but most of them assume all clients have enough reception bandwidths which, in fact, are different from each other, especially in wireless network environments. To solve this problem, Reception Bandwidth Adaptable (RBA) approach including HeRO, BroadCatch, CAR, FBR and MBC, along with Reception Bandwidth limited (RBL) approach containing SkB, GDB, CCA, CCA+, CCA++ and DeRe are proposed. In this paper, we presents a Hybrid Broadcasting (HyB) scheme which combines Enhanced Fast Broadcasting (FB+) scheme and Delay Receiving (DeRe) scheme together. Our HyB scheme performs better than other heterogeneous receiving scheme in viewer´s waiting time and buffer demand. In addition, this scheme is allowed to adjust the buffer demand by adjusting the buffer demand of DeRe scheme part, which is a unique property among all broadcasting schemes.
