Abstract :
This paper comprehensively investigates methodology of 3D FEA model of a novel 12Slot-10Pole wound field flux switching machine (WFFSM) with salient rotor and non-overlapping windings (SalRoN) and compared the results with 2D FEA. This machine does not require slip-rings or brushes and combines the stator of WFFSM with segmental rotor and non-overlapping windings (SegRoN) and rotor of WFFSM with salient rotor and overlapping windings (SalRo). Using 2D FEA, the WFFSM SalRoN are found to exhibit high flux linkage, high average torque and flux distribution with no saturation region. 3D model is extruded from 2D for precise results and after analysis it is observed that the flux linkage and average torque reduce to 47% and 22%, respectively. Moreover, the cogging torque of 3D FEA is less than 2D FEA and the model exhibits some saturation region at the stator core.
