  • Abstract
Research and development on flux switching machines (FSM) for several applications have been carried out by the researchers in recent years. According to excitation source the FSMs are classified in three types´ permanent magnet PM FSM, field excitation FE FSM and hybrid excitation HE FSM. In recent development of research has been with toothed rotor structures which exploits changes of paths for the stator teeth but this structure produces less torque and power due to longer flux cycles. Hence, the use of a segmental rotor structure has been developed, which gives significant gains. The primary function of the segments is to provide a defined magnetic path for conveying the flux to adjacent armature coil in stator as rotor rotates. Therefore in this paper new structure of hybrid excitation have been presented and the performances of initial HEFSM I, improved HEFSM II and enhanced HEFSM II has been analyzed on the basis of 2D FEA using JMAG ver.13 designer released by japan. As conclusion enhanced structure HEFSM III achieved better performances in terms of torque and power with smooth flux distribution over the stator.
