Abstract :
Flux switching machines (FSMs) have been created to describe machine in which the stator tooth flux switches its polarity by following the motion of a salient pole rotor. In general, FSMs can be classified into three group clusters that are field excitation (FE) flux switching motor, permanent magnet (PM) flux switching motor and hybrid excitation (HE) flux switching motor. The main flux sources for both FE and PM have only one single main excitation flux source, respectively, induced by field excitation (FE) coil and permanent magnet (PM), while HEFSM combines both PM and FE. This paper presents comparative study of single phase 8Slot-8Pole PMFSM, FEFSM and HEFSM. Initially, the general construction and design concept of the proposed machines are described. Furthermore, the initial performances of the proposed machine are evaluated based on 2D-FEA. The simulated result shows that PMFSM produce lowest back EMF and FEFSM with highest harmonic. HEFSM produce low cogging torque and highest flux linkage. The initial design specification and predicted results are also presented.
