Abstract :
Developing centre for research and development (R&D) activities is crucial to provide and synergies the intellectual resources to generate ideas and new invention for the benefit of the people. Through empirical research, the novel methods and best practices could be identified both from academia and industry settings that can inform the factors that need proper planning and strategy in developing a research hub. This study is conducted to explore the vital requirements to establish a research hub for the Centre for Medical Electronic Technology (CMET) in Polytechnic Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. It uses focus group discussion to obtain feedbacks from the industry and academics experts regarding the requirements to operate a research centre. Insights from various angle such as ecosystem, human capital, public and governmental support, infrastructure, networking and linkages and financial aspect were elaborately discussed amongst the ten members of the focus group. They were invited based on their experience and current position in biomedical background. Findings were analyzed using qualitative procedures manually. A model of a research hub will be developed from the findings. It is anticipated that results from this study would serve as a guideline for future standard or policy requirements pertaining to running an effective research centre.
